Sci-fi horror game

Chasing Static is an indie game that offers a unique take on the narrative adventure genre. This game offers players new audio-driven gameplay mechanics and nonlinear exploration. Here, you will go on a hunt for anomalies using an experimental frequency displacement monitoring device.

Chasing Static is inspired by 80s sci-fi horror and contemporary surrealist cinema. With this, expect a Silent Hill-like experience as you play. However, unlike similar games, do not expect combat and puzzles. The focus of the game is the interactive story that plays out like a movie. Don't expect it to be a full-pledge horror game either.

What is Chasing Static?

Chasing Static takes players to Northern Wales as they play as Chris Selwood. The game begins with Chris seeking shelter in a roadside cafe on his way back from the funeral home. However, a strange thing happens, and Chris finds the cafe in shambles. To make matters worse, his dad's cryptic journal appeared to be connected to this event. It is up to him to uncover the mystery.

There is no combat or puzzle in this game. It focuses on an interactive story that plays out like a sci-fi movie. It is more of a narrative-driven walking sim that consists of a ton of walking back and forth. Thankfully, the developers made moving easy thanks to the small maps, speed running, and teleportation mechanics. The gameplay is also nonlinear, allowing you to play at your own pace.

The game does not shine in terms of story. Yes, it is engaging, but there is nothing new to it. What makes it stand out is its PS1-reminiscent graphics. It also comes with a bold and creepy soundtrack that Silent Hills fans would love. However, despite its mysterious plot and horror tones, the game is more of a sci-fi game than an indie horror game.

More of a sci-fi game

Overall, Chasing Static is a solid and engaging game to play. Its story is typical of the genre, it managed to make it engaging for casual and hardcore players. There's even replayability and achievement hunting for the players who want more content. However, despite its bold and creepy audio and visual design, the game is more like a sci-fi game rather than a horror game.

Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.
